Rule No. 1 is put down your phone. And if you can't, the Biebs will put it down for you.
It’s safe to say that Justin Bieber has a huge influence on today’s youth, and now he’s putting his popularity to good use. A campaign has been launched with PhoneGuard’s acclaimed Drive Safe™ software application that will prevent texts, e-mails, and all keyboard function of a cell phone while driving faster than 10MPH. Justin will be working with the Remember Alex Brown Foundation in spreading the word.
“As a 17-year-old driver, I am aware of the countless distractions that we teenagers face on the road, and texting is one that is preventable. There are too many young people, like Alex Brown, whom we’ve lost because of texting while driving, and it is my hope that, through this partnership with PhoneGuard, we will raise awareness of this issue and create safer conditions for everyone on the road,” he said.
“Every night we perform we have a banner that goes up that says ‘Don’t Text and Drive’ so it really means a lot to me,” he continued. “We are planning to continue to give $1 from every ticket sold to this cause and the addition of PhoneGuard to this team will help us expand our efforts even further.”
"This campaign isn't antitexting," Bieber assured us. "It's about texting responsibly."
An important cause indeed, but what made the Twitter-loving teen get on board?
Bieber was inspired by the Remember Alex Brown Foundation, named after a high school senior who died in a car accident that occurred because she was distracted by texting.
"Alex Brown's family lost her to texting while driving," Bieber said. "Working together with the [foundation], we hope to help teach teens and parents about the major risks involved with texting and driving so they don't suffer the same loss.
Good work, young Bieber. If even a fraction of his 11 million Twitter followers download PhoneGuard's Drive Safe app, he can consider his time well spent.
