Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony Divorce

Superstar couple Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have sent shockwaves through Hollywood by announcing the end of their marriage.

The actress/singer wed Anthony in June 2004 and they welcomed twins Max and Emme in February, 2008 - the same year they renewed their vows.

News of the split is sure to put a dampener on Lopez's upcoming birthday - she turns 42 on July 24.

It is American Idol host Lopez's third failed marriage. Anthony was previously married to former Miss Universe, Dayanara Torres, mother of his two sons Cristin, 10, and Ryan, seven.

Consider us taken to the floor.

While a split in Hollywood (and other glamorous environs) never really qualifies as a cause for shock, Jennifer Lopez and her husband of seven years, Marc Anthony, appeared very much in love since the day she and Ben Affleck broke up.

Um, anyway...

Both acting and singing double threats with a shared Puerto Rican background, J.Lo and Marc seemed to be the perfect couple on the red carpet and off, their body language always affectionate and their outfits never clashing. They costarred in El Cantante together and collaborated on numerous musical projects, even announcing that they were expecting twins while onstage in Miami.

But today, the announcement wasn't a happy one, so we're taking a look back at how they got from A to Over:

January 2004: Affleck and Lopez admit that the Bennifer days are over, months after postponing what was going to be their September 2004 wedding day.

June 1, 2004: Anthony finalizes his divorce from former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres Delgado, the mother of his sons Cristian and Ryan. The "You Sang to Me" singer also has a daughter, Ariana, from a previous relationship.

June 5, 2004: The twice-divorced Lopez dons Vera Wang and quietly ties the knot with Anthony at her home in Beverly Hills, aerial paparazzi angling for shots through a thick layer of foliage and other privacy-preserving obstacles. The over-the-moon newlyweds honeymoon at San Ysidro Ranch, near Santa Barbara.

Sept. 22, 2004: "Both people have to really want to be there, you know, and they both have to make that choice," Lopez tells Chicago's ABC 7 News. "And it's a compromise, and it's how you treat each other when you're hurt. I think that's the most important thing."

April 2006: Lopez's yet-to-end legal battle against ex-husband No. 1 Ojani Noa's determination to cash in on their brief marriage, first with a tell-all book and then a so-called comedy about him coming to America (coupled with a little J.Lo sexy time), begins.

Nov. 7, 2007: Lopez and Anthony reveal that they're going to be parents in front of 10,000 fans at Miami's American Airlines Arena, the final stop on their joint tour.

Feb. 22, 2008: Son Max and daughter Emme are born in a Long Island, N.Y., hospital.

Oct. 12, 2008: Lopez and Anthony renew their vows along with New York Mets slugger Carlos Beltran and his wife Jessica at Caesars Palace's Forum Tower Penthouse in Las Vegas.

Dec. 16, 2008: Facing down rumors that their recently renewed marriage is on the rocks, the couple snuggle during dinner in Beverly Hills, then jet off to Puerto Rico for a seemingly romantic getaway at the end of the month.

July 2009: Anthony buys a stake in the Miami Dolphins, telling People, "Jennifer loves Miami. So she's really, really happy about this because we're going to be spending a lot of time down there." They later purchase a pad in the Icon Brickell tower in Biscayne Bay.

July 25, 2009: Lopez turns 40 with Anthony by her side, celebrating the occasion with a fancy (would you expect anything less?) dinner party at the Edison Ballroom in NYC.

Aug. 5, 2009: The Awful Truth predicts that Lopez won't stomach a third divorce. Well, AT's only human...

Sept. 17, 2009: J.Lo and Marc meet the Obamas! They're are treated to a VIP tour of the White House before Anthony receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Afterward, the power couple celebrate Anthony's 41st birthday with cake at the nearby W Hotel.

Jan. 5, 2010: In an interview with Latina magazine, Lopez admits that marriage isn't easy, but that "everything" about hers is great. "First and foremost, we love each other, truly love each other in a way that's very deep and meaningful, not in a superficial sort of way," she says. "There's a deep respect, admiration and love for each other. We honestly believe that we make each other better people ... We force each other to be better, and I think in a relationship, that's how it should be. You shouldn't be with somebody if he makes you feel less than who you are."

April 22, 2010: What makes Lopez feel sexy? "Him," she says, pointing to Anthony, her date for Us Weekly's Hot Hollywood party, where she's honored as Style Icon of the Decade.

December 2010: Anthony is tagged by the IRS for $3.4 million in unpaid taxes. Soon after the reveal, his rep assures that the matter has been taken care of, but still... Debt isn't very sexy.

January 2011: Lopez starts spending long hours with three other men—Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Ryan Seacrest—as the 10th season of American Idol gets underway with a fresh feel and new talent.

Jan. 18: 2011: Lopez tells Ellen DeGeneres that she'd be "extremely happy" if she were to get pregnant again. So, was she (or someone else) extremely bummed that she didn't?

Feb. 13, 2011: Anthony wears his trademark sunglasses and Lopez flaunts her trademark lower half in a sparkly minidress, her sky-high heels making her just a smidge taller than her man, on the red carpet at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, where they both presented.

A few weeks ago: Both Lopez and Anthony sit down for an interview with Latina, and things seem great! "You know, we respect each other, we respect each other's opinions, and we love each other, more than anything," Lopez says. Asked about believing in fate, she says her marriage to Anthony was just that. "And I believe in destiny and I believe that things are going to be what they're gonna be and for whatever reason, we were meant to share this time together," she says, not bother to explain what "this time together" actually encompasses.

July 15, 2011: Lopez and Anthony announce that they have made the "difficult decision" to end their marriage. No mention of the D-word yet, but they do say that they have reached an "amicable conclusion on all matters." And then, due to their global-star status, they also release a copy of their official statement in Spanish.
